SC Heerenveen – Big Winner in Leonhofen

After two exciting and high-quality days, the Dutch talent factory SC Heerenveen emerged as a more than worthy tournament winner with a final victory over LASK.

With perfect conditions, variable weather, and two excellent pitches, the numerous spectators were treated to thrilling matches right from the first game, as only the top two teams from each of the four preliminary groups advanced to the Top 8, where the final spots were determined in the intermediate round.

After an intense first phase of the group stage, eight teams qualified for the upper bracket to compete for the tournament title. Among them were three Austrian teams and five international representatives. From the very beginning, the intermediate round was marked by a fierce battle for the four coveted semifinal spots. After a hard-fought group phase, the four semifinalists were decided – Glasgow Rangers, SC Heerenveen, LASK, and Grasshopper Club Zürich. Both semifinals were so tightly contested that they had to be decided by penalty shootouts. In the first semifinal, LASK beat the Glasgow Rangers; in the second, SC Heerenveen triumphed in penalties after a thrilling 2:2 draw.

The placement matches followed, leading up to the grand finale as a fitting conclusion to the event. In front of a packed grandstand, SC Heerenveen proved to be the deserved winner, claiming the final with a 2:0 victory.

The 29th edition of the Dr. Nimmrichter Memorial Tournament will be remembered by all participating teams, spectators, and sports enthusiasts as a unique event. Satisfied participants who congratulated the organizing team on a fantastic tournament and expressed interest in returning in 2026 are the greatest and most meaningful recognition for the organizers.
