Superlatives in Leonhofen at the Anniversary Tournament
At the 30th edition of the international Dr. Nimmrichter Memorial Tournament, there were highlights at every turn. A world-class field of participants, a record-breaking crowd, and a fantastic summer atmosphere â all organized by an outstanding 100-member FCL team.
This anniversary tournament was marked right from the start by top sporting performances as well as surprising results. Defending champions SC Heerenveen, FC Augsburg, RB Salzburg, and VfB Stuttgart all failed to qualify for the upper play-off stage. Meanwhile, SC Wieselburg made history by becoming the first regional team ever to win a group stage, outperforming Stuttgart, Austria Vienna, and Heerenveen.
On finals day, the second group stage continued at the highest sporting level, with spectators witnessing many close and thrilling matches for a place in the semi-finals. In the end, Eintracht Frankfurt, Nottingham, LASK, and Austria Vienna secured their spots in the semi-finals. Both LASK and Nottingham won their matches 1â0 and advanced to the grand final at 5:30 p.m.
And in the tournamentâs 58th match, around 2,000 spectators were treated to a footballing spectacle. The English side took an early 1â0 lead, but the newly crowned Austrian double winners from Linz responded ruthlessly. Before halftime, the black-and-whites turned the game around with two superb goals and then defended their lead cleverly. When the English side missed a huge chance to equalize late in the match, there was no doubt left about the tournament victory for the Linz side.
LASK deservedly secured victory at the 30th Dr. Nimmrichter Memorial Tournament, with captain Milad Karimi also being named the tournamentâs best player.
But the boys from Leonhofen also delivered a strong performance, narrowly missing out on a point against Admira after conceding late, before ultimately defeating SV Oberndorf 3â0 in the match for 15th place.
There were also many wonderful highlights away from the pitch during this anniversary tournament. One of the major moments was the honoring of the organizing chiefs from the past 30 years, all five of whom â together with their teams â helped turn this tournament into one of the most unique events in Austrian youth football. Hermann Lustkandl, Karl Schmoll, Martin Schartner, Mario Reiter, and Manuel Stiefsohn, along with their helpers, achieved countless milestones and brought 60 prominent professional clubs from Europe and overseas to Leonhofen in the heart of the Mostviertel region. Looking back on this history is something every FCL fan and supporter can be truly proud of.
All guests were also full of praise for the excellent conditions in Leonhofen. From the two playing fields, top referees, catering, sponsor support, host families, team assistance, commentators, and anniversary raffle, right through to the tournament management and all 150 volunteers â every aspect of the event was highly appreciated.
FC Leonhofen would like to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to this great success and these extraordinary achievements. With immense pride, the club looks back on a wonderful FCL family that experienced an unforgettable anniversary tournament together.
